Just What I Have Needed!
I needed a fiddle that could be exposed to the rigors of outside shows and traveling without my having to worry about humidity, temperature, etc. affecting the instrument structurally. It has definitely delivered that so far, and I am well pleased. I changed the strings, bow (Fiddlerman carbon), and rosin to suit my playing style, and it's now my gigging fiddle. Great transaction with Fiddlershop...highly recommended! Steve Williams
As an 82 year old I’ve been playing the fiddle for only 22 years purely as an amateur. I love the Glasser violin. The playing is very consistent and sounds well I still play my three wood violins a lot too. I bought my three Glasser violins, one a 5 string, from sources other than Fiddlerman but I’ve bought other things from them and they are great.
Great quality for what it costs
First things first, I have only been playing and taking lessons for a few months, and have used a wooden student violin that cost roughly the same as this. I have to say tone is pleasing everywhere from open G to everything in the first position on E. I had my instructor play it and it wasn’t until halfway up the fingerboard that the tone quality starts to drop, but learning and just having fun playing on a sturdy instrument, this thing is great, my personal pros and cons detailed below. Pros: -Cost -Consistent and pleasing tone* -Easy to play -Looks nice -Durable -Geared pegs for quick and easy tuning* -Most importantly, it’s just fun to use Cons: -Harder to avoid tinny sound when playing softy -Tone quality drops noticeably higher up E string* -Geared pegs would slip for the first two weeks (a whole note overnight, and would go flat while playing it, however, this could have just been due to the new strings. And while not necessarily a con, the volume doesn’t get quite as loud as a wooden acoustic, but unless you’re planning on playing in a concert hall or a large audience outdoors, the volume should be plenty loud. TLDR; great sounding instrument at a good price that’s fun to play
Fantastic violin, well worth it!
I LOVE this violin. It's sound is a little underwhelming compared to my very nice old traditional violin. But, it is a very pleasant sound, and very smooth, very even, and the soft dynamics are particularly impressive and delicate. It is a little on the heavier side, but it plays great, and it's totally impervious to climate changes. It's totally awesome, and well worth the $600!
I bought the violin from the FIDDLERSHOP because I wanted to be sure it would be inspected and set up professionally. When it arrived my confidence was confirmed. It came with high quality strings and the planetary pegs are much better than simple wood. It was a Christmas present for my 12 year old son and it was the jewel of the season. It is a violin that he will keep for a lifetime. It has a warm deep tone and looks beautiful. My son plays it every day.
