It can take a beating
This is a great, very flexible shoulder rest and from the amount of times I have twisted and tweaked this thing, it's very well made. I gave it four stars because I have not been able to experience what it's like playing with a well adjusted Wolf Forte Secando; I've had this for about 3 weeks and still find myself making adjustments everyday when I practice even after spending a couple hours adjusting it when I first got it. I've been playing violin for two and a half years and bought this because I became increasingly uncomfortable using my cheap Muco shoulder rest but have not been able to figure out how to adjust this new rest correctly (chin rest included in my adjustments) even though I'm sure once I figure it out it will be comfortable. I wouldn't recommend this for beginner violinists unless you have a good violin shop you can go to for help with adjustments (I don't). Online videos are helpful but still nothing like hands on help.
This light but well made shoulder rest lets you twist, torque and rotate it every which way. Compared to my previous Bonmusica, it doesn’t quite hook over my shoulder. Therefore, I have more freedom of movement which I see as a plus as I gain confidence and my beginner technique improves.
I played with a Wolf Primo when I was a kid. My teacher confiscated it. The Forte Secondo is an experiment to see what works across a variety of instruments for me. I like the flexibility and the different height options. Not so wild about the rubber feet when everyone else has switched to silicon. Rubber gets caught in my hair.
Ok but not for me
Too much flexing in all directions. They tall height worked ok but I couldn’t get it to stop rocking back and forth. Rubber bands and stuff everywhere. Some like it.
Nice option for smaller shoulders
I like this shoulder rest because it allows me to place it closer to the collarbone where I really want my support to fall. I use rubber bands on the legs to prevent it from coming off. The U shape hits just right.
