W.E. Hill Peg Composition (Made in England) is the best known compound for keeping pegs from sticking. This is what we use at Fiddlershop on all of our newly installed/adjusted pegs. Surprisingly this works a lot better than other peg compounds we have tested. In easier words; Fiddlerman recommended!!
"The original Hill composition for pegs which have ceased to turn smoothly. - To be applied sparingly"
Red Iron Oxide
This stuff really worked for me.
My pegs were sometimes popping out when I'd change environments and try to tune it. Or when tuning the nobs wouldn't turn smoothly, they'd jump a bit. So, i changed the strings, and as i took each peg out, I covered it with this stuff, put it back in the hole, spun in around ( to coat the hole), then put more of this on the peg ( again ) and then put the string on. Did that for all four and everything is much smoother.
You are always prompt on
You are always prompt on getting my order to me. I really like your personal touch of adding a fiddlershop cloth with my orders. Thank You!
If you're not using this, you should be.
I've always wondered why the violins I've purchased from Fiddlershop for others tune so easily, when my personal violin pegs stick and slip. Well, this is why. I put on a new set of strings and applied this peg compound to the pegs, turning them to distribute the compound in the holes, and voila (not viola), my pegs hold and turn without sticking. I can finally tune my violin one handed while bowing, like I'm supposed to be able to. Thanks, guys.
W.E. Hill Peg Compound
I used the peg compound for the first time and have only changed the strings on my violin by myself twice now. Yes, this compound was so easy to use and made the pegs so much easier to turn and tune and stay in place!
Now my pegs don't slip!
