Cello Sizing Guide

If you have a cello to try, sit at the end of the chair with your feet flat on the floor. Lean the cello at a 45 degree angle against your body. Extend the endpin so that the top of the cello body rests in the center of your chest. The C peg should be slightly behind your left ear. Make sure you can reach both ends of the fingerboard easily. If you don't have an instrument already, see this chart for approximate sizing by age and height.

Review Videos

The story behind every Holstein German Maestro cello begins with quality selected tonewoods from the best regions of Bavaria, Austria, Switzerland, and Bosnia.  We start with wood that is over 30 years old, dried and seasoned for an additional 30 years. This cello is handcrafted with the greatest attention to detail in our German workshop that has over 25 years of experience making fine instruments.

The Maestro cello is handmade by three makers and raises the standard for affordable, hand made, European instruments. While many shops are content to use German sounding trade names for instruments not even made in Europe, the Holstein Maestro, named for our Founder and Fiddlerman himself, Pierre Holstein, represents an exciting new era of bringing the highest quality instruments from northern Bavaria to our global customer base.

While the simplest translation of "Maestro" means "Teacher," musicians use the term as a sign of respect for their colleagues. Historically, the conductor of an orchestra would be referred to as the "Maestro," however, in the modern era it is a gesture of admiration and esteem regardless of status.

The Holstein German Maestro is an excellent choice for any style and ability. The tone of this cello is very deep, direct and with a quick response. With the power to fill an entire hall, and sensitive for even the most intimate of gatherings, the cello nimbly responds to the desires of the performer.

The soundpost, or soul of the instrument is crafted and adjusted in our shop using the highest quality spruce, and meticulously adjusted and tested before shipping to help the cello sing clearly and respond quickly.
