This is an excellent bow for the price and my son has been able to pull better sound out of his violin than with his other bows.. It has quickly become his favorite bow. The difference was noticeable even during blinded tests of the different bows he has (another pernambuco bow and a carbon fiber bow).
The overall experience was good. Service good, etc. Packaging was amazing. I don't know if this will be helpful to anyone. It would be disingenuous to give a rave review when I know so little. I have little in the way of experience to cite in reference to opinions about bows. I'm an old person, self taught re fiddle, using several online sources to help. This bow is definitely, absolutely far better than the other two I have. One is a very old 3/4 bow someone was about to throw away. It actually still plays OK. The other is a Fiddlerman Carbon Fiber bow I found on Amazon before I found the Fiddlerman web site. (It is the $70 version available a few years ago. It could use a rehair now.) I thought it was good until I got this one. It took me some time to get used to this one, but now the difference in tone is obvious. Unfortunately, I can't say it helped my playing, even though it produces better tone. I might have liked it better if it were two grams lighter. It weighs in right at 62 grams and especially at first seemed noticeably heavier than the FM CF bow, which weighs in at 60 grams. Now that I've used it a lot, I don't notice its weight and it is feels better, responds better, is easier to handle playing faster, etc., even though their balance point is about the same. I may decided I like it better than a lighter bow, but of course I don't have an equally good lighter bow to compare directly. I think I must like it pretty much compared to the others I have because I no longer feel any temptation to switch back and forth to compare. I could have ordered several to compare on trial, but I think for someone at my self taught level, it was best to buy a decent bow and play it for a while before trying something else. Otherwise the confusion would have been overwhelming. I will eventually try something else out of curiosity, in a couple of years. FYI, I'm playing an unlabeled probably late 1800's "trade" fiddle (my grandfathers, of course) which I finally found someone to repair (however questionably), and a modern "advanced student" level Chinese fiddle that I bought new locally. This bow makes them both sound better.
A friend told me that the Bow is very important in the sound creation of a violin. So I desided to purchase the 2** Holstein Bow. I received the Bow in perfect condition, exactly as promised. ( I also purchased a Master FS Violin to upgrade from my Concert Violin) It all arrived in perfect conditio. The Bow is superior, functioning with perfection, as if It were a part of me..it improved my control dramatically. The Bow performs flawlessly. And, it is beautiful, is as light as air, and really sings the fiddle. I whole heartedly recommend this Bow, with out reservation. Clare and the staff at the Fiddlershop are professional, friendly, and very patient and helpful. I will continue to shop here myself, a loyal customer.
Shipped very fast and satisfied overall. Sounds better than my old carbon fiber bow. Less heavier than I thought. I wanted to try a new rosin I ordered together but this bow was already rosined from the first, which is weird. Is it supposed to be?
Thanks for your great review! Happy to hear! We usually do not rosin our bows, but we intermittently test them to make sure that they are of highest quality. So that is what must have happened in this case.
I am very pleased with this new violin bow. Very impressive sound and it weighs only 57 gms! What a pleasure to play with! Fiddlershop contacted me regarding advice on shipping which was good to know as well. I appreciated that extra level of customer service. Well done!
