Having used my Fiddlerman hybrid violin bow for a few weeks now, I find it a pretty good bow, especially for the cost. Since I play mostly 18th-century fiddle songs at a reenactment site, I prefer a wood-looking bow instead of a more modern carbon fiber looking bow. But, because I mostly play outside, or at least in natural air conditions (instead of air-conditioned), I like having a stick that doesn't respond to changing weather conditions. Occasionally, I find the bow bounces a little, but that probably has more to do with my playing (I've only played about 4 years) than with the bow. I do find my Holstein 2-star pernambuco bow a little better playing overall, but the hybrid is quite good for my needs at a very reasonable price. Service from Fiddlerman was exemplary, as usual.
This Bow is every bit as good as a $500.00 pernambuco bow I have. Never again will I spend too much money for a violin bow.
Perfect purchase experience. Answered all of my questions. Thank you!
The Fiddlerman Hybrid Violin Bow arrived quickly and was packed in a nice looking, reusable, dense cardboard case. The bow plays and sounds as good as some more expensive pernambuco bows. I did not like the grip though, so I called Fiddlerman to tell them they should put a nicer grip on these bows. Since then 4 students have tried mine and ordered their own, which came with nicer grips! I guess Fiddlerman listened! Yeah Fiddlerman!
This Fiddlerman hybrid bow is the best value in bows, period. I am primarily a bluegrass fiddler, and enjoy playing classical in a quartet and local orchestra. I mainly play a Coda colors ($400), and I like this hybrid even more. For $150, there is nothing even close. I had a luthier look it over, and he went on and on about the workmanship. I only care how it plays and sounds = fantastic. Buy it.
