These extra tall chinrests were designed to give violinists and violists the most comfortable playing experience possible, and specifically meet the needs of players with taller necks.
The Guarneri model is a center mounted chinrest that attaches to the instrument with the usual chin rest key (or paper clip if necessary). No special tools are required, and in most cases, it won't impact closing the lid of the case at all.
The Guarneri model is quite possibly the most popular style of chinrest around the world, and this extra tall version simply meets players where they are at. No more clinching. No more lifting shoulders.
- Nickel Silver barrels

I bought this because I have a long-ish neck and wondered if it would make me more comfortable while playing. I wish I’d bought this earlier in my violin journey because it’s made such a big difference! I can hold the violin hands-free under my chin without it feeling like it’s going to fall on me, and I’m not as tense in general while playing because my violin hold is now more secure. I have noticed I have a lot less pain. I got the 30mm size, I feel like I could have gotten a slightly taller one but didn’t want it to be too tall, I think going up to 40mm might be a bit too much. I feel so much better though and I think I will stick with this height, it seems to be working for me. I was worried that it would be chunky or look kind of ridiculous but you can’t tell from looking at it that it is a tall chinrest, it looks pretty normal. (Though I’m talking about the lowest 30mm height, I’m sure if you bought the tallest version it would be a lot more noticeable.) Anyway, I’m so glad I found this and I recommend it, (if it doesn’t work out for you, they make it easy for you to return it) thank you Fiddlershop.
Extra tall chinrest was very uncomfortable for me and forced my head into a strange downward angle.
Very grateful to have this
When I had neck surgery 17 years ago, my violin playing had to cease. I have a very long neck and had gotten used to playing with a standard chin rest and Kun shoulder rest, but that became impossible after surgery. Last week I tried the 50mm chin rest with a Bon Musica shoulder rest, and I can hold a violin again! Not only that, I can do so without any abnormal tension in my neck or shoulder (I think I had been playing the wrong way my entire life.) Now I just have a whole lot of practicing to do...
Good, fast service, good product
As a player with a long neck I thought this chinrest might work. It turned out to be very uncomfortable and forced by hear too far forward.
