What does B-stock mean?

Every now and then we receive an instrument from our workshop with a visual imperfection. The instrument might have a small nick, scratch or a miss-coloration in the varnish. These visual issues do not affect the performance or playability of the instrument. However, we would never put these instruments into our regular inventory.

Just like every other Fiddlerman instrument we sell, this instrument is set up to perfection by our talented luthiers and is covered by our lifetime structural warranty.

Fiddlerman Soloist Violin Outfit

Fiddlerman will personally test these violins thoroughly before shipping out. The Soloist violin is now made in an exclusive Holstein Violin workshop! After trying hundreds of models, Fiddlerman settled on this one as his dollar-to-dollar favorite advanced level violin.

Beautiful violin and sound

The color is actually much darker in person than the photos which appeals to me a lot. I received the red brown version. I can't even see the spot/imperfection where it would qualify as a "b-stock" instrument. As far as the sound, it is very loud and a nice balanced sound (much louder than I was expecting). I usually play viola so it is a different feeling to switch instruments as a novice violinist (I have much to learn, lol). It is very comparable in quality to my viola which cost me 3-4x this amount. I don't think you can get a better value for the instrument especially with the added accessories. The case was also better than my viola case. I had a terrible old student violin and this completely blows it out of the water... There is no comparison to the upgrade in quality. The listing originally stated I would receive a Sandalwood bow, but I believe it was updated after my purchase, so it came with a carbon fiber bow. The carbon fiber bow is nice though I prefer the pernambuco bow I already have as far as bringing out the sound. I also put some Pirastro Passione strings on it from my old violin (unfortunately they didn't help IT sound much better) and they sound lovely so far. Very excited to continue learning on this instrument, and I am sure it will meet all of my future needs. Thanks as well for the fast careful shipping and beautiful packaging. I will definitely shop with Fiddlershop again in the future, they exceeded all my expectations.

I Love This Violin

Beyond My Expectations! I am a novice and after learning to play on entry level instruments, I had no idea how much a quality instrument like this one could enhance my playing experience. It is extraordinarily responsive and has a full, rich, and expressive sound. I added a Kaufman chinrest for comfort (fits me) and upgraded to a 2 star sandalwood bow. I am enjoying the Peter Infield Pi strings, even though I don't yet have the skills to fully exploit them. This violin will fuel my enthusiasm for a long time. I did add some Wittner fine tuners for now. I am not too skilled at peg tuning yet. They can always come off when I change strings down the road. My music is about enjoyment and this violin is fun to play. I will always shop Fiddlerman's B Stock first. I enjoyed a thorough set up on a high quality instrument at a great price.

B-eautiful imperfections at a discount!

I waited for a few days to write this, because this B-stock soloist needed to adjust to the humidity in Canada. Pegs were a bit tight when I received it in the afternoon. I tuned them as best as I did not want to force them - fearing I might break a string or two of the Peter Infeld Pi strings. A pleasant & welcome surprise upgrade from the Vision strings described to be the common set up. Struggled a bit to rosin the carbon Fiddlerman bow. The hair seemed to be loose despite me tightening it. Away, very pleased with how it handled & responsed. I got very clean & smooth strokes in my warm up's. Yes, this violin is B-stock. It's got a few nicks/pits that the red-brown varnish couldn't conceal. But wow, this sound it makes with Peter Infeld Pi strings is a big improvement to previous in violins I've tried. In fact, I've waited over a year, since this pandemic began last year & when my workplace closed for good. Finally, took the plunge, because my birthday is in June - so this my gift to myself for surviving & staying somewhat sane. I've been watching Fiddlershop videos & other violin related YouTube channels before deciding this purchase. Initially, I wanted to buy it for Christmas, but with the weather being potentially cold & unpredictable - I didn't want to receive a potentially damaged violin due to extreme temperatures. Anyway, very pleased with the product! Thank you for having B-stock violins for people like me, who are unable to buy premium priced violins. Although I did splurge for the Fiddlerman Pro Series, in hopes of getting a somewhat better idea of what an imitation Arcus might feel like. Anyway, for those interested, you can read my review about Pro bow when I do it within the next few days. Again, a big thank you for a great online buying experience!

Couldn't be happier

Coming in at just 80% the price of the A-stock soloist violin, with a few blemishes I would never notice, this was a phenomenal buy. I'm still a beginner so there's only so much I can say, but the instrument was beautifully set up and is very playable compared to my previous violin right out of the box. It sounds absolutely beautiful as well. The packaging was very well done and comes with a bunch of quality goodies. Fiddlershop staff was also very helpful and responsive when sending pictures of the instrument and following through with other requests regarding my order. I'd recommend this to anybody looking for a violin in this price range.
