What does B-stock mean?
Every now and then we receive an instrument from our workshop with a visual imperfection. The instrument might have a small nick, scratch or a miss-coloration in the varnish. These visual issues do not affect the performance or playability of the instrument. However, we would never put these instruments into our regular inventory.
Just like every other Fiddlerman instrument we sell, this instrument is set up to perfection by our talented luthiers and is covered by our lifetime structural warranty.
We have a limited stock of these instruments. Every instrument has a different imperfection. Please find attached pictures for examples of these visual flaws.

Beautiful violin with equally beautiful sound
This violin is absolutely gorgeous, and, if may just be my lack of experience or knowledge, but I can't even find any aesthetic flaws that might be present to make it "B" quality. The violin itself sounds beautiful when played, and all of the extras provided seem to be high quality. I am absolutely delighted with my violin.
I decided to buy this violin in order to save some extra money. I received the instrument on time. I did plenty of research before I purchased. My original goal was to purchase something in between the concert and artist price range. The violin looked very put together. I had a $50 violin prior and the pegs had to be adjusted numerous times per session. With the OB1 I have played it hours a day for about a month and have not yet had to use the pegs. In contrast, the G and D strings are hard to play (probably prelude) but I can't complain because of the price of the package. Ultimately, I was a little discouraged that I didn't invest more into a violin so I went ahead and bought a Glasser 4 string acoustic. The strings on the Glasser are much better, but the violin takes some practice to draw a good sound out of it. The OB1 resonates much better and would probably sound better then the Glasser with new strings. If I could do it over again I would have waited a little bit longer (they were out of stock of almost everything) and purchased a better wooden violin for example 2019 FiddlerMan artist. I'm giving this review five stars because you probably can't get anything better then the b-stock OB1 at this price range. The bow, case, and accessories were excellent.
Awesome violin outfit!
I wasn't out to get a violin when I came across the OB1. I was working on choosing a new viola, but it occurred to me that having a violin would be a good idea now that my niece, who takes lessons with me, is at the stage where she notices the differences in my viola during our hour each week. Clare and the Fiddlershop team gave me great advice in choosing the OB1 for my purposes. It turns out that my new violin is as good as if not better than the hand-me-down my niece currently plays! I'd have been proud and excited to have the OB1 as my first instrument when I began playing in an ensemble. It more than exceeds my needs and expectations. The violin itself is gorgeous, well made and continues to hide whatever made it b-stock because I can't for the life of me find it myself. It feels fabulous to play. The carbon fiber bow is great for my needs and will be a super introduction to carbon fiber for any player. It runs circles around any "upgraded" brazilwood bow and I'm not looking to replace it any time soon. The case and extras are far beyond what I expected at this price and target audience. Everything is carefully designed, proudly presented and well crafted. The case and hardware especially are sturdy and there's plenty of room for all the bits and bobs you'd want. It *feels* fancy and is a fitting home for such a nice violin-- I've seen the cases that come with "deluxe" outfits from online retailers that don't hold a candle to this case. The rosin, shoulder rest, tuner and mute are also much higher quality than anything I've encountered at this price point or even those accessories that cost more. I expected I'd need to sub in my own favorites for these things, but it turns out I don't have to at all. I shouldn't be surprised, though-- I've never had anything but great experiences with Fiddlershop and everything I've bought here. I'm a fan and customer for life. I can't wait for her to size up to a full so I can treat her to a violin from Fiddlershop too!
Absolutely no complaints at all
The violin arrived as per scheduled. No damage at all. It is beautiful despite it being B-stock. Would definitely buy another instrument from them
Top notch, 5 star ... Thanks Guys
First off, the instrument. Most excellent. My first fiddle was a $35 cheapie, then I bought a Cecilio electric, nice, but this OB-1... WOW. The feel, the sound, the finish -- very nice. Complete with all needed accessories. I am a former professional musician, but only a 1 year new student to the violin. I am just learning about the violin, but I do know quality instruments and this one satisfies. Now for Fiddlershop. The shop setup of the instrument was one reason why I bought from you guys -- thanks. And the packaging for shipment was above and beyond. I have purchased stringed instruments before by mail, but I have never had one packaged and protected like this one. First rate guys. Will definitely purchase from you guys again -- but I probably won't be buying another fiddle for a long, long time :) Thanks. ba
