What does B-stock mean?

Every now and then we receive an instrument from our workshop with a visual imperfection. The instrument might have a small nick, scratch or a miss-coloration in the varnish. These visual issues do not affect the performance or playability of the instrument. However, we would never put these instruments into our regular inventory.

Just like every other Fiddlerman instrument we sell, this instrument is set up to perfection by our talented luthiers and is covered by our lifetime structural warranty.

We have a limited stock of these instruments. Every instrument has a different imperfection. Please find attached pictures for examples of these visual flaws.

Fiddlerman Apprentice Violin Outfit

The Fiddlerman Apprentice violin is quite easily our best performing instrument for the price.  It's a great choice for beginners who prefer a more nuanced and developed sound compared to the OB1. You'll fall in love with the expressive capabilities and dynamic range that the Apprentice makes possible.

Violin Features:
  • Solid-carved slightly flamed spruce and maple tonewoods
  • 100% ebony fingerboard, pegs & fittings
  • Carbon tailpiece with 4 fine tuners
  • Hand-carved French Despiau or Holstein 1-star Bridge
  • European spruce soundpost from "Alpine Tone Wood"
  • Spirit-based durable dark brown finish (no thick lacquer)

    Beautiful!

Wonderful experience shopping here. The instrument was beautiful and the sound is amazing! Quality instrument for sure. Even though it was b stock, we couldn’t find a single flaw. Will definitely shop here in the future and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to others.

    First Impression - Extremely happy!

I bought this violin for my daughter (10 yr old who just started Violin last fall). It just arrived yesterday and she hasn't had a chance to play it yet, so I will update this review once she's got it "in her hands". So far, my wife and I are extremely pleased! The violin is beautiful. Yes, it's a B-stock, but honestly I wouldn't have noticed the imperfections if they hadn't been pointed out to me ahead of time. The setup is excellent, and as promised "ready to go" out of the box. The accessories included are even nicer than what I was expecting from a "package" deal. Went over everything with a fine tooth comb, everything is as promised. I'm going to copy in part of the review that I added to the video that Fiddlershop sent me prior to shipment: FYI, for anyone who is interested in hearing the "path" I took to this instrument: First of all, I don't play Violin. This is being purchased for my daughter who just started learning last fall. I play many other instruments including Piano, *****, Guitar, Dulcimer (hammered and mountain), Sax, Clarinet, Oboe, Bassoon, etc. and I do have a well-tuned ear to music and instruments. I have been listening to my daughter play occasionally on a school-provided loaner violin since last fall, which honestly has been painful. I came to realize that one of the reasons I think she avoids practicing is because of the sound of her violin, so I started the process of selecting a violin for her. Obviously, there are a LOT of choices out there for student level violins, and a lot of BAD choices too. After following a number of reviews and recommendations I had just about settled on a Stentor II 1500, which seemed to be the recommendation of a lot of violin instructors. Then I started reading the reviews in more detail and heard people talk about issues with tuning, slipping pegs, intonation issues. That made me realize that a professional setup and different strings would definitely be required, so I added that into the violin "budget". Then I saw a review comparing the Stentor to the Tower Entertainer and saw/heard an immediate difference in instrument quality. That brought me over to Fiddlershop.com to look at the Tower Entertainer. I was very surprised to see that the price of the Entertainer was going to be under what I was budgeting for setup and upgrades on the Stentor. Needless to say, I was quite impressed not only with the quality of the instrument but with the approach of the shop itself. And reading the reviews (not just on their website but also elsewhere around the web) confirmed the initial impression! Of course, I still wasn't terribly pleased with the overall "presence" of the Tower but felt it would be a much better student instrument. I started to click on the Order, and immediately looked at the upgrade options for strings and bow. And comparing that to the Fiddlerman violins. Surprisingly, by the time I started adding up the recommended upgrades for bow and strings the price was getting much closer. And once I started listening to the various Fiddlerman violin videos the difference was obvious! Here were the instruments that met the combination of quality and value that would be an instrument I would be comfortable with playing (well, with my daughter playing) for years! To be honest I listened to just about every video I could find on the OB1, Apprentice and other violins. I fell in love with the sound of the Apprentice. I know, that should probably be the Artist or something of equal level, but the Apprentice is the one that had the voice that I found reached my heart the best. Of course, the price was just above what I thought would be appropriate for a young student's first violin. Then I saw the B-Stock, and read the reviews (again, both on the Fiddlershop.com site and other reviews on the web). The "external" reviews are generally where you hear the most horror stories, especially about b-stock instruments, and much to my surprise there was very little negative to find anywhere. Going with the b-stock brought the Apprentice down to the level where I felt comfortable with the quality and value for a student violin that will go to a student who I know has almost as picky an ear as I have. Now it I can just come up with an excuse to convince my wife I need one of my own ... ;)

    Fell in love

So I been on the fence for long time, finally the day came and I got the email your item is in stock. I rish to the shop and bought this beautiful violin. Then about 7 days later it's at my front door. Like kid at Christmas The aww of opening the box and seeing this beautiful violin was amzing. Everything is good quality. 1. Shoulder rest very nice 2. The rosin is awsome 3.The case great quality 4.The bow very light and good. 5. The violin itself I order the B stock my untrained I didnt see anything wrong. Now the good part. The rosin and bow was so smooth across the strings and immediately I notice the quality of the violin can tell difference right away from the some of the nice lower end students violins. This is a must for new students sound and quality is there. I have also the Tower strings midnight it too has it own sound and its is good to learn and start out on a budget. They are both great violins. I have listen to them both from the demos. I just love the sound of the Apprentice. So in my opinion both great violins. But the Apprentice has my heart.

    Absolutely perfect!

I currently live in Russia where they train great violinists but have to get good violins from outside the country. After researching for a couple of years, and buying a beginner violin from Fiddlershop, my teacher and friends were so impressed with my violin and the price I paid. It was a no brainer to buy another one, the B-stock apprentice for my second violin, so now my daughters and I could try duets. Any questions I had about the appearance, setup, or even which pickup to buy were all courteously answered promptly. Since these violins are such great quality and affordable, it is totally worth it to me to pay a little extra for my dad to ship it over with a small customs fee, than buy an overpriced junky violin here. So... I now have my eye on a Fiddlerman viola and a cello!
