Holstein Workshop violins are handcrafted by one experienced luthier in our select VSA award-winning workshop. The quality of workmanship goes far beyond anything else we’ve seen in this price range. The tops are made of fine quality Italian spruce, and the back and ribs from Bosnian maple (100+ year old wood, aged and dried a minimum of 10 years). Our Holstein Workshop violins are made in various replicas and copies of violins made by the old masters, such as Stradivari, Guarneri del Gesù, Amati, and Maggini. The quality and dimensions of the wood, as well as the varnish, are copied from the originals to achieve the same tonal qualities.
This violin is inspired by the original Guarneri 'Del Gesu' violin made in 1740. The quality and dimensions of the wood is copied from the original (as well as the varnish), to achieve the same tonal qualities of the priceless Guarneri from 1740. The original was played by Ferdinand David, and in 1922, Jascha Heifetz acquired the violin. He played this violin, his favorite violin, for 65 years!
Holstein Workshop violins are setup with premium quality fittings and strings to bring the most out of the instrument. The Despiau “Three Tree” bridge is hand-carved and fitted to perfection by our luthiers during the setup process.
Fingerboard: Fine Ebony
Bridge: Hand-carved professional level Despiau 3-tree or Holstein Deluxe Bridge
Strings: Maker's choice. Standard is Thomastik Vision. We select and match the strings carefully to bring the most out of each individual instrument.
Certificate of Authenticity
This Holstein violin is sold with a certificate of authenticity; handwritten, stamped and signed by our in-house luthier.
I did an in-home trial of two instruments. Both were very nice but I chose the Workshop "David" (over an MJZ 909) for its overall balance and because I ultimately found it easier to play. The entire process of working with Fiddlershop could not have been more pleasant. Whether by e-mail or phone, their employees were always knowledgeable, friendly, and eager to help. The packing of the two instruments was carefully done and they arrived in perfect condition; likewise, the steps for packing and returning the instrument that I did not choose were clear and easy to follow. Based on my own experience, I'd say that Fiddlershop's many 5-star ratings, both for their products and for their customer service, are entirely deserved. Thank you Pierre, Michael, and your whole team.
I Love “David”!
My shopping experience was excellent! Michael was warm, personable and professional. I expressed what I was looking for and I was able to listen to many violins which fit my description.
A beautiful sound
I’d recently purchased the David after comparing it to many others (with the help of Michael). Once home I fell in love with the fullest and richest of the sound. I played a few song during my new online Meetup group. The overwhelmingly response was about the quality of the sound. I highly recommend the David. David and I are happy together and I foresee traveling along my music journey together .
