The P-bows with their very strong stick and balanced sound are the perfect match for all large violas with a string length of 37 cm, respectively 14 1/2 inch. They draw a sound that is clear and strong, rich in overtones and projects perfectly. We make them with octagonal and round sticks. The octagonal bows feel very lively and agile and bounce almost automatically. The round one's have a more steady feel and follow the movements of the right hand with utmost precision.

Round or Octagonal - Octagonal bows play in a more agile and lively way. The round sticks have a very regular cross section, which gives them a very even and steady feel.

Great tone for a carbon fiber bow

When I got my new 16.5" viola, I was very curious how I could get a better tone out of my instrument, and figured a nicer bow would fit the bill. After carefully narrowing down the bows I wanted based on research online, the P-series bows stood out to me. I tried out the middle of the road P-5 with the Round shape. Arcus knows their viola bows. They have a lot of videos on YouTube that go into depth about the factors that make their bows great. Unsurprisingly, I was not disappointed with the tone I got out of the bow. It was possibly the best tone I've heard from a carbon fiber bow, and possibly one I might prefer above a good pernambuco bow. Great focused tone and not overly bright. The bow handles very well, and its lighter weight certainly makes for some easy articulation once you get used to it. The lightness does make it slightly harder to control if you're used to heavier bows, but all it takes is some practice to get more familiar with it. Overall, I was very impressed with it, but the price was a sticking point. I also had a chance to try out a CodaBow Marquise GS at the same time, and I fell in love with that bow. A good tone, slightly better (should I say, more familiar) handling and control, and more importantly, almost $200 less in price. I think if it were $200 less in price, I would have definitely kept this lovely bow. However, the small increase in performance (compared to the Marquise) didn't justify the price markup for me, personally. For those that wish to have the best sound you can get from a viola bow, though, this may be it. Highly recommend it if you have the budget for it.
