How is Dominant Pro different from regular Dominant Strings
The Dominant Pro has a familiar tone that players can immediately recognize from the regular Dominant set. However, the Pro version provides greater volume, wider dynamic range, and a finer color pallette to draw from.
How is Dominant Pro different from regular Peter Infeld (PI100)
Many players and luthiers have adopted Peter-Infeld as a stronger, more powerful, more direct, more nuanced alternative to classic Dominant strings (also higher tension). Dominant Pro is ideal for instruments and players seeking these same performance enhancements that might benefit from an overall lower string tension (similar to classic Dominant strings). If your instrument sounds too constrained or thin with PI strings, Dominant Pro strings may help the instrument vibrate more freely and with a fuller tone.
Put them on yesterday (had PI’s on that were pretty awesome, but I couldn’t wait to try these out) First impression: G and D fast, responsive and bright, very similar to PI’s but maybe not as loud, which for me is a good thing. The A is good, very quick response too. The E whistles just a little when I really try, nothing like the platinum E on the PI’s that whistled all the time for no reason. And sounds brighter than the warchal spiral E and more clear and ringing higher up. Overall the set is very well balanced and well matched. I’ve tried lots of strings: Obligatos, Violino, The fiddlerman brand, warchal sets and especially spiral E. (I’ve tried too many E’s!) I’ve even tried the warchal avant-garde spiral A (which is a nice match with the spiral E but tough on the finger). Most recently I’ve tried the Peter Infields wanting to see what the best strings (or at least most expensive) were like, but (sorry Michael) these Dominant Pro’s are going to be my go to strings. I like the whole set, so goodbye to the spiral E. The tinned E is well balanced with the set, bright and clear and really doesn’t whistle. I won’t even try the platinum E since I’m so happy with the tin E that came with the set and had such a bad experience with the PI platinum. (I know each violin is different, the PI’s are great on my daughter’s 905) Plus they come in a cool box that makes you feel like it’s something from Apple. And they look great on my violin all in black!
Just received and changed the strings on an intermediate level instrument that had the Standard Dominant strings from the time I purchased the violin. After tuning up the Pro strings and started to play, the description " Exceptionally powerful compared to classic Dominant" is very true. It made me jump back at the difference. It was definitely worth the change.
These are very nice sounding strings on my Holstein Traditional Lord Wilton violin. You can feel a difference under your fingers with improved playability. They are a little slow to settle in, requiring daily tuning adjustments (and sometimes even within a practice session), but they tune very easily. And the sound is worth this minor inconvenience. Overall very happy with these strings and as always Fiddlershop service is exceptional.
The Dominant Pro strings are, well, wow just wow. The sound on my German violin is rich, warm, and full of color. Warmth of Obligato strings but with so much more vibrancy. Effortless fingering as well. The strings settle in quickly and are quite consistent. Thomastik has outdone themselves. Wow.
I like the sound!
