Great bridges if you want to carve your own
If you want to learn how to fit a bridge, these things are GREAT. Buy 4 -- the first 3 will be learning experiences, the 4th will be good. Be advised that these are blanks, so they're way too thick & you need to carve/sand them down. Good bridge wants to be 1mm thick at top, 4.25 at the bottom. The ebony insert is 1mm thick, so it provides a really good guide to getting the shaping right. The wood on these is very nice, it cuts just like the much more expensive Auberts (though I don't know how well it holds up over time). It is a bit **** -- flecks are nice but the base tone is fish belly white. You can fix that by staining it with yellow ochre artist's oil paints thinned with linseed soil.
Experience is good as always. Items arrive on time, in good condition. Thank you!
At first I
At first I was worried about 'popping out' the ebony, but with a bit of care there was no trouble carving it into shape. Now My cheapo violin sounds a whole lot better. The online video tutorial was also a great help.
