Still experimenting

After a couple of weeks over the past month experimenting with settings/adjustments I have yet to find one that equals the feeling of my collapsible Kun that I've used for several years. But there are so many possibilities that it's just a matter of time....One adjustment that I've found to be not necessary is the pad height adjustment. The stock height as delivered is okay.

Not cheap, but very useful

This seems to be the most adaptable shoulder rest I've ever used. Simple to set up, sturdy: it didn't move since I installed it. It perfectly fits my shoulder and let itself be forgotten. Not the cheapest on the market, but I hope it will last decades! Thanks!

Kun Seven Shoulder Rest

There are two things I do not want to feel when my violin is at my shoulder. One is the chin rest and the other is (and more importantly) the shoulder rest. I want to feel like I am resting on the body of the violin and not some added accessory. I use a Wave DeCapo II chin rest that fits the bill quite nicely. I was using a Bon Musica shoulder rest, which is a disgusting beast, but it is able to be modified for one's use...(hammer not included). I disliked it...a lot! The Kun Seven is a complete redesign from what I have used before. And the design changes are significant... 1. The feet are wider and offset allowing the rest to be attached further towards the bottom of the violin without falling off. 2. The rubber on the feet are very grippy. I have purposely tried to get it to fall off...it won't. I shook VERY HARD trying get it to come off and it stayed firmly attached to the violin. 3. The pad can be moved (it has a three inch travel) without removing the rest from the violin. There is a lever below the pad which loosens it for adjustment. 4. The bridge has graduation marks on the side to allow the pad to be remounted exactly where it was before being removed...nice touch! 5. The pad is very pliable yet keeps it shape. 6. The pad itself is 7" long. I feel it has more stability than others I have used. The pad will also tilt. 7. The length of the rest is easily adjusted. Two buttons on either side releases the mechanism to change the length. 8. The height is not adjusted at the feet. Rather three spacer blocks are provided which attach to the bottom of the pad. The shortest block comes pre-attached to the rest. Again...more stability. A tool is provide to change the blocks. Thus the bridge remains the same height. Only the pad is raised. 9. The bridge is actually two pieces. The right side slides into the left side. This allows for two ways to put the rest on the violin. You can either do it the regular way by sliding the rest onto the violin which is rather difficult owing to the grip of the rubber on the feet OR you can expand the bridge and the push the right side toward the violin...which is much easier. The right side of the bridge has a ratcheting mechanism that locks in place securing the rest. 10. The material on the pad is great. It has a raised dimple configuration which keeps the violin from sliding. Every shoulder rest I have used had the same problem. Put the violin up to your shoulder, let go it, and it would slide down. This material doesn't allow that to happen. Yet you can easily move the violin when you desire to do so...another nice touch. I tried it with a nylon shirt...didn't slide! An ill-fitting violin doesn't do much for motivation and desire to practice or play. It is uncomfortable and annoying. An unwelcome distraction. You were required to tolerate and accept it. I think Kun has fixed the problem. Do I recommend this? Yes. Would I buy this again? Absolutely. I finally got what I wanted...a violin set up where the chin rest and shoulder rest are totally unnoticeable.

Kun Seven

You practically have to be an engineer to put this thing together! That being said, it will take a little time to fine tune the placement.

First to review

Sold out already ! So I'm assuming more reviews will be forthcoming. I've had mine for 4 days and have spent between 5-10 hours fitting /adjusting. It would be silly for me to say, 'do this, do that, etc.' and viola ! all your shoulder rests problems will be solved for all time. Every one is different and knows how they want it to fit. All I can say is keep at it, the many adjustments can lead you astray by experimenting but eventually you will home in on what works best for you. Overall it's of high quality and won't wear out in spite of the greater number of moving parts.
