This mute is a great, cheap way to bring down the volume for practicing. However, I noticed that putting the mute on actually affected my strings because it was so tight on the bridge. I actually had to tune as a result, so that is something to consider.
The Ultra Practice Mute does not mute quite as thoroughly as my old metal mute, but the lower profile makes for easier play. Overall, I am quite pleased.
I needed a mute as I'm a beginner player in a small apartment with thin walls. This mute works great and I don't worry about bothering my neighbors anymore! I like that it's more flexible that my other mute because I'm less worried about breaking the bridge putting it on and off.
Everything went well, got my items and they work fine.
Again, Fiddlershop was perfect with ordering, delivering and customer service. The mute is wonderful. I can sit and practice while my husband is in the room and there is no issue, of course, he does not complain when not using a mute, either. But, I feel better practicing any time I want to. I tend to have a lot of consideration for my husband when playing, and was not doing it as often as I wanted. Again, never complained, but I didn’t feel right, We have a very small house. We downsized a few years ago, so I really can’t go anywhere where my violin would not be heard. This mute has opened up so much more time for me to play. The sound is muted, but, other than that, sounds the same. It is easy to put on and take off. I do hold the bridge lightly when removing, probably not necessary, but I do. I was a little leery pushing it down very far, but have gotten used to it now. I like that it does not have the metal core. My cello mute has a metal core, and I don’t like the weight of it on my bridge, or the rigidity of it. This mute is flexible, and lightweight. Hope this is helpful for those looking for a violin mute.
