Wilian De Marchi violin and viola bow review. I’m a Jazz guitar player who started playing violin in college over 40 years ago as a second instrument. Over that time I’ve played and taught violin and viola on and off. While staying home during the Pandemic of 2020 I started playing violin and viola again because I now had extra time on my hands. I was still playing with the carbon fiber student bows I bought 40 years ago so I decided to upgrade my bows. I first ordered the Fiddlerman carbon fiber bows for violin and viola because they have been getting such great reviews and I found out for myself that they are great bows. I then called the Fiddlerman shop to ask some followup questions and got to talk to Michael Holstein. Michael was very friendly and helpful and as we discussed bows he enlightened me to the value of a good wood bow. I was already very happy with my Fiddlerman carbon fiber bows but he convinced me that a good wood bow would be a welcome addition to my growing bow collection. I ended up buying a Willian De Marchi nickel violin bow and viola bow. This review will cover both bows because my impressions are the same for both of them. Playing this bow for the first time really turned my ear around. I immediately noticed a few things: 1. The sound is full and balanced, consistent and smooth. 2. I feel like I am sounding and playing better than I really am. It’s like the bow id playing itself. It requires very little effort and responds immediately to any input. It is perfectly weighted and balanced. It weighs 62 grams. 3. Double stops seem easier probably because it is so well balanced. 4. String changes are smooth and effortless. I feel it is helping me improve my bowing by exposing the flaws in my technique. If something does not sound good I know it’s me and not the bow. I really feel that this bow will allow me to advance my technique and not hold me back. This bow is an inspiration and makes me want to practice. As a Jazz player I’m always looking for new sounds. This bow provides a very special sound. This is a luxurious bow.
