The instrument has sweet demeanor in tone, it plays incredibly easily, requiring hardly any effort at all. It does project sufficiently well, however it responds best with less pressure and more bow speed.

About Bernard Hildebrand:

Born in 1883 Ohio, and died in 1961 Springfield, Ohio USA, Hildebrand begain his professional career in 1922 in Cutler, OH. He established a shop in Athens, OH in 1927 and moved to Springfield in 1928.

It is estimated that he completed nearly 300 instruments, however two separate fires destroyed many of the instruments he had made. Perhaps 100 of those instruments still exist. He made primarily violins, but did also make other instruments including mandolins.  He retired after his second shop burned (taking hundreds of violins and tools with it)  He retired somewhere around 1956-58, and he passed away a few years after that.  He also did a considerable amount of commissioned work and repairs out of his shop.
