I had my Barcus Berry sent to me in Europe, and it only took a week between ordering it and having it in my hands! The violin sounds as we know it (the electric sound is excellent, whereas the acoustic sound is average for this price range). The blue finish of the violin was a bit disappointing, it looks a little cheaper than you see in pictures, but I do not regret my purchase and I am very happy with the violin.
I purchased my Barcus Berry Acoustic AE from another shop, but had a hard time finding reviews, so thought I'd post one here. The acoustic tone is excellent, even allowing for the fact that it is painted mine's emerald). Speaking of the color, it's gorgeously painted and I've gotten many complements. The resonance is superb. Amplified sound is also great and I've got mine paired with a Fender Mustang guitar amp, which enables me to use a variety of effects. The weight of the instrument felt no different from my acoustic. It was an easy adjustment, even with the amplifier cable plugged in the side. Since the shape is the same as an acoustic, my old shoulder rest fit fine.Keep in mind that the violin comes from the manufacturer with Red Label basically student grade) strings that you'll want to swap out for something better - mine sounds great with Helicores. So, if you think it sounds tinny out of the box, the new strings will rid you of that issue. My violin had issues with the fine tuners on mine. I had to swap out the tail piece for a carbon fiber one as soon as it arrived because the tuners on this instrument were hard to turn and the E tuner was misaligned anyway costs about $20 at a luthier).
