About the maker
The maker, Ming Jiang Zhu, is a "VSA" (Violin Society of America) gold medal winner! He has won the greatest number and highest level of awards in that highly prestigious international competition. He has become one of the most frequently awarded violinmakers in the world. Fiddlershop is proud to sell these fine instruments which would surely cost many times more if they came from any European country. This instrument is as beautiful to look at, as it is easy to play. It has all the wonderful qualities of a fine professional instrument and reminds me of the sound from fine Italian old violins.
I received my MJZ905 today around 12noon and I have nothing but great things to say about it!! I did have to tune it some on each string, but the weather has been very hot and I am sure this is what caused the fine adjustments. I am an amateur music hobbyist and I am taking Violin lessons now about once a week to learn some classical music. I am a fiddler for many years, collecting folk tunes and now with the pandemic and the crazy times we all are living in, I am loving playing music and this new Violin is a great inspiration! I have been playing it for about 3 hours today and it already is feeling like it is a part of me and I am sure that as it gets more broken in and acclimated to it's new home it will continue to get even better?! Fiddlershop has been very good in setting it up and taking care of any questions I have had! If you are serious about playing or even just learning as a beginner and can afford a fine instrument like this MJZ905 I highly recommend this instrument, and purchasing it from Fiddlershop!
I was looking to upgrade from a beginner violin to something to grow into or the next several years. This violin was recommended to me by Christina. I tossed back and forth between a mess forte, fiddler man soloist and the Ming Jiang Zhu. After seeing a video of the three violins, I picked the MJZ, and had a couple modifications. It arrived within a week, and I have found this violin far exceeds my skills at this point, but that even in a short time I have gotten better, with my intonation improving through the responsiveness of the MJZ. Wonderful customer service through the process, with quick responses, and a fast turn around order to delivery, even with modifications. ( changed the tailpiece, chinrest and switched to whiter fine tuner geared pegs). Highly recommend the ship and the violin.
I am an intermediate player and was using a student model for approximately 10 years. I am soo happy that i decided to upgrade to this beautiful Ming Jiang Zhu 905 violin! I can hear a big difference in the sound. It will be awhile before i upgrade again... but who knows :) I highly recommend this violin!
I have owned the MJZ S905A since January 2019, so my review is well after that initial period of new violin syndrome wears off. The good news is my appreciation for the 905 hasn’t changed in 16 months. If anything, I love my violin even more! Five years prior to purchasing the 905, I played an Eastman violin that was very warm and dark, so I was looking for something different—something brighter but in a good way. I also found that my Eastman no longer cut the mustard so to speak. It just seemed to choke when playing in 5th position or higher. I needed an upgrade. I went to a violin extravaganza at a local music store in town, where big name brand dealers displayed their instruments, but I just couldn’t find anything I liked. I then went to a very reputable violin shop near Washington D.C., where they have antique violins, but unfortunately, they were out of my price range, so I had to look for another option, and found Fiddlershop. I researched their violins and read customer reviews, and decided to give them a try. I planned to purchase a 909 model after I learned I was receiving a bonus from my job that would help cover the cost. Well, I forgot how much Uncle Sam’s share was, so my bonus only allowed me to upgrade to the 905. To my surprise, the 905 sounded like a more expensive instrument when hearing the videos that Pierre recorded for me. I would describe the Strad (S) pattern 905 as clean, focused, and refined. It has a lovely tone—almost birdlike in the upper register. As an added bonus, it’s a beautiful instrument to look at. I’m proud to own this violin, and can’t believe something this good is under $2,000. It really can’t be beat for the price range, so if you’re on the fence, please give it a try. Will this be my last violin? I think not because Fiddlershop has an amazing array of instruments to fit every budget. I also can see and hear the quality of their bench made violins, so it's something to aspire to. So, when I do decide to upgrade, I will definitely come back to Fiddlershop. Their staff is decent, their products are excellent, and their prices are affordable. You really can’t ask for anything more.
I bought this instrument 3 months ago and I'm continually impressed day by day. The sound of this instrument is warm, mellow with depth - it has fantastic resonance and response. I must say I'm also impressed by the setup, very professional. The instrument traveled thousands miles and still came in tuned. I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking to further his violin-ship journey.
