For the price, this may be the best violin bow available. I recently had occasion to compare three bows. This JonPaul Fusion bow I bought from Fiddlerman, and two bows owned by my friends. They are both top of the line Pernambuco Brazilian-made bows. I actually prefer the Fusion. It was just as responsive but most important, it allowed me to pull more volume and power out of my lower G and C strings on my 5 string violin than the Pernambuco bows. Quite frankly I find this bow to be the cat's pajamas. You won't spend a better $194 for a bow. As far as I'm concerned you can add a zero and make it $1940. It's that good. Next up is a Fiddlerman 5 string violin. They are obviously a quality violin shop.
Sadly this bow was underwhelming. It draws a nice warm tone, but not clear. It's also slow to respond, and you really have to apply pressure to get it to attack. I know this is carbon and wood wrapped but the wood wrapping looks terribly fake. I purchased this to replace my $40 Chinese Ipe bow, but after many hours of comparing, I prefer my Chinese cheap bow. Terribly dissapointing as I've heard good things about the Avanti bow.
The best bow I have owned for the price. Nicely balanced, good sound. Will buy another one.
Even as a beginner, I noticed that I could produce a more plesant sound with the JonPaul Fusion than with my pernambuco bow of a similar price. But what do I know? However, my Russian and Canadian conservatory trained teacher couldn't believe how much bang for my buck I had acquired. She's even seriously considering getting one for herself!
I've been using this bow for the last three months and I must say that I'm really happy with it. It's lighter compared to the fiddlerman carbonfiber bow I had previously and the sound it brings out of the instrument is great. Customer service was of the highest quality again and I highly recommend doing business with the Fiddlershop. Thanks again!
