First off, Fiddlershop is a fantastic business. Michael has been incredibly helpful throughout my search for a new bow. They’re really living up to what they advertise themselves as in every way. Thanks Fiddlershop! On to the bow. I’ll start with the pros: My favorite feature of this bow is the winding. I really like the tight silk and silver combo. I got the brown version, and the carbon fiber weave looks nice through the coloring. Camber looks good - the curve is consistent throughout. Nice physical features for sure. Now for the cons: I was looking for a bow that is on the lighter side in weight and feel, and in particular less tip heavy. I’m finding that lower price bows are often tip heavy. my previous bow was this way, and was hindering the ease of playability. This particular bow definitely has the same issue - worse even. The tip was quite heavy which made it even more difficult to play easily. A friend of mine has the standard fiddlerman carbon fiber bow, and I find that bow to be far better in balance and weight. It’s definitely lighter, and not at all tip heavy. When loosened, this bow is straight. However, when tightening the hair the bow had a very subtle curve/turn where the leather wrap starts, then continued on straight down the rest of the bow. While i don’t think this would be a huge issue long term, it just didn’t look great and didn’t leave me with a feeling of confidence. In the end I decided to return this bow. Ultimately it deserves two stars for me because it has some nice visual features for this price, but beyond that Its not what I had hoped for. In my communication with Michael I was convinced to save up and purchase a higher quality bow. I ordered the Holstein 3 star pernambuco bow - Wow, what a HUGE difference it makes to invest in a better quality bow! The difference in build quality makes it almost feel like part of my arm rather than something I’m working to use with my arm. I can say that the standard FM carbon fiber bow has a closer feel to this, so for those on a budget I would personally recommend that bow over this weave bow.
Wow I was very impressed with the quality of this bow, I've played bluegrass and Irish music for number of years, I teach violin and guitar at my home, so a good bow is a necessity in my line of work, This bow is the Sherman tanks of violin bows, not to light not to heavy, just right for me, I'm a big guy have huge hands so this bow is a big benefit to fiddle playing for someone like me, it sounds great, handle's great, just built rock solid, I love it, lots of quality for the price, I was not expecting a bow with that much quality, boy was I wrong, Get one
Great service and timely delivery. I really like this bow. I rosined it up and went to work. Better than any bow I have owned.
I bought the carbon fiber weave bow after already having and liking the standard carbon bow from Fiddlerman. I was disappointed to find out for my preference the carbon fiber weave bow is much more rigid and clumsy and I can definitely tell that it plays poorer (for me). One of the frog "eyes" also was cracked and a piece missing. I didn't realize they carried some sort of warranty and should of returned it right away. I think their customer service is probably good. Save a little money and and go with the standard carbon fiber bow since the weave is not an upgrade.
I'm very happy with this bow, I've been playing for 10 months so don't have much experience but this is way better than my other bow.
