The Fiddlerman OB1 Violin Review
How does the Fiddlerman OB1 compare with the Fiddlerman Apprentice?
The Fiddlerman Orchestra Beginner-1 (or OB1) is one of our top recommendations for beginners on a budget. It is well crafted from aged tonewoods, finished with a beautiful dark brown varnish, set up here in our shop to perfection.

The violin was still in tune when it arrived, the packaging was excellent. The violin holds tune and the pegs don't slip or stick. The bow, case rosin, mute and shoulder rest are really good. The only issue is the finish on the violin could be better done and a small portion at the top where the scroll meets the neck on the topside seems messy and the neck and top sound board area looks messy. The tone is great and mellow and not crazy bright, it is easy to play and very responsive.
It is a great little fiddle the case is top of the line would like any help from you on learning to play what to learn bluegrass and Christian worship song
Thanks for your great review! Fiddlerman runs a web site where he teaches people how to play the violin for free. It has hundreds of Youtube videos, free tutorials, sheet music, advice, etc. You can also talk to other beginners and musicians on the Fiddlerman Forum. Please visit www.fiddlerman.com.
I tried the cheap route on Ebay and got a laughable piece of junk, two of four tuning pegs inoperable, bridge would not stay in place, junk finished and a warped bow so bad the horsehair was always in contact with the stick...thus unusable (but I salvaged the nice Electronic Tuner, rosin and extra strings before I threw it away). I know nothing about violins (and my playing confirms that!), but I know my way around an electric guitar (have a mint Les Paul and Stratocaster and Telecaster both) and Mandolin, so I can tell a solid instrument from **** and I could tell the OB-1 was a well made, if basic, violin. SET UP...the big difference between Fiddlershop and the others. The instrument was ready to play out of the case...just some turning of the fine tuners and extra time (first use) to rosin the bow. Right now I can't play at all (barely) but was able to get luxurious tone at least out of bowing the open low G and upper E strings. The low G, since the instrument of course was on my shoulder, resonated deeply into my heart. I can't play now (unless three note figures on high E count as "playing'), but I loved that tone so much---I will learn and I will love it. 64 years old by the way...never too late to start. If I "graduate" from the OB-1 for something mid level, or want to try a viola, there is only one place I will buy it...Fiddlershop.
I bought this instrument because I’ve always wanted to learn. So far I love this violin! It’s so beautiful and fun to play.
After weeks of comparison shopping, locally and online, I decided on the Obi-Wan. The order process was made easy by PayPal and correspondence from Fiddler Shop was immediate. I watched the progress of the shipment as it moved cross country. All was well until we received an email stating the fiddle had arrived. It was nowhere to be found. We contacted the red, white and blue delivery company to see where it was dropped. No response. We contacted the Fiddle Shop and they confirmed delivery to our porch. We asked neighbors and patrolled the area. 24 hrs later a young lady knocked and asked if this package was mine. I rewarded here $ for her trouble and she tried to refuse. I insisted as Obi-Wan was very precious and I felt the need to show my appreciation. In the end I am very pleased with Fiddler Shop and the way they conduct their business. I do wish now they had a shipping option for the brown and gold delivery company as they are more consistent with the correct address. Thank you Fiddler Shop! I love my OB1 fiddle and all your videos
