Ashokan Farewell is best known as the plaintive theme from Kenneth Burns' highly acclaimed Civil War television documentary. In addition to Jay Ungar's authorized solo edition as performed in the documentary series, this folio contains the touching Civil War era Sullivan Ballou Letter and Lincoln's famed Gettysburg Address. Arranged for violin with piano accompaniment and suggested chord symbols for optional guitar and bass.
Separate pull-out violin part.
Key of D Major
Very nice. Prompt delivert and well packaged. I fondly remember the multi episode series The Civil War by Ken Burns on PBS some years ago. Throughout this performance by Jay Ungar and Molly Mason is repeated against vignettes which make up Mr Burns' epic undertaking so well put together and presented. Ashokan Farewell becomes its underlying theme, presenting a melancholy aura to a sacred event in American history. While no single descriptor nor theme can rightly approach such a sacred affair Ashokan Farewell respectfully and lovingly does that justice.
I am enjoying learning to play this piece. Even better would be a recording of this precise version to be available (there are several versions, but the composer says he plays it a different way each time; I have the version used in Ken Burns’s documentary, "The Civil War").
It is ok.
